What Mudgee is to wine, the Snowy Region is fast becoming to art. If you haven?t experienced Jindabyne?s Lake Light Sculpture festival, the Easter long weekend is a perfect time to get yourselves out of the city and into cultural surrounds over
3 April to 6 April.
The Lake Light Sculpture exhibition an absolute delight to walk along and observe all the interesting shapes and sizes and perspectives. There is something about being out in the sun and the wind and the rain that makes the sculptures feel extra special.
The sculpture trail follows along the Lake Jindabyne shores and is different from other such art walks as each sculpture is intentionally lit up, encouraging visitors to
come out at night to enjoy the spectacle.
There's also a sculpture hunt which actively draws young and old into the fun of the festival looking for clues around the sculptures for a chance to win prizes.
Visitors are encouraged to vote for their favourite sculpture for a chance to
win one of the sculptures or join one of the local artists for
a talk about their sculpture. You can learn about their other artworks and sculptures as well as generally find out about the art and culture scene in the Snowys.
Jindabyne is a pretty town at the best of times with rolling hills surrounding it on all sides. If you?ve never been down to the Snowy region at any other time of the year besides your annual snow trip it is worth putting aside Easter to get amongst the delights.
The light festival is in its 13th year and there are more than
55 sculptures. There are awards for the best sculpture and the sculptures themselves are for sale.
Are your children artistic or into doing different of interesting things rather than sitting in front of their screens and hand held devices? Make the most of the lovely outdoor weather before we need to don head-to-toe snow gear. There is a children's workshop suitable for ages 5 to 15 years during the Easter break. They can learn how to make a sculpture out of wire using Styrofoam and other materials.

Don?t miss Jindabyne?s art show
Jindabyne?s art fiesta continues down at the Memorial Hall but is not confined to the Easter weekend. Opening night of the Art Show (hosted by Lions Club) is
7pm Thursday 2nd April and it runs to the
11th April. Nibbles and drinks available. All welcome.
The art show is a fantastic opportunity for regional artists to showcase original designs, including indigenous art and beautiful scenes of the alpine areas. It is also the opportunity for people to
purchase unique art works at great country prices.
Ninety percent of artworks come from the Cooma and Snowy Shire, additionally artists from Canberra and further afield are drawn to the art show.
Zoe Young is an up and coming artist to keep an eye on, she is well-recognised in the Snowy area and favours a big brush modern contemporary painting style. Come and check out her work and support the regions emerging artists.
