Guided Fishing Trips for Every Angler

Fly Fishing in Threadbo

The Thredbo River offers diverse fishing — from alpine meadows at Dead Horse Gap to the exciting gorges and big pools near Ski Tube. You’ll even find great spots right in Thredbo Village, just steps from your door. Expert local guides are available for morning or afternoon trips to help you land a big brown trout and master essential fishing skills.

Thredbo is a Blue Ribbon Fly Fishing River.

The New South Wales state fisheries classify streams across the state by the quality of their fishing. It’s no surprise that the Thredbo River is rated a Blue Ribbon stream for trout fishing. This means only lure and fly fishing are permitted. The river is closed to fishing from the June long weekend until the October long weekend. A fishing license is required, the same as for coastal fishing, and can be purchased at Thredbo’s chairlift ticket office if you don’t already have one.

Fish the Snowy Mountains Lakes.

The lakes created by the Snowy Scheme offer some of the best freshwater fishing in Australia. Whether you prefer bait, lure, or fly fishing, these waters are home to plenty of fish — including some true deep-water giants — making every trip both entertaining and rewarding. In winter, lakes like Jindabyne and Eucumbene come alive, with big fish rising to the surface to feed.
