When you think of Thredbo you may think of the mountain either covered in snow or with stunning green vegetation peppered with wildflowers, the great restaurants or even the village and its atmosphere, but do you ever think of the Thredbo golf course?
It's a little known fact that Thredbo has a nine hole, par 64 golf course hidden on its hillside to the west of the village. It stands at 4,136 metres above sea level and playing a game of golf on it is subject to there being no snow cover, namely between October to May.
Those who are aware of the golf course will know that, aside from the March flies, there is very little to moan about, but then again, welcome to Australia the land of insects!
Emily Scobie, from Chatswood in Sydney is a very casual social golf player. She played there in 2014 as part of her pre-purchased All Mountain Pass.
She relished the opportunity to slip away from the little children, get out on the Thredbo golf course and hit a few balls with her partner and her parents, enjoying the sunshine.
?The course is relatively easy because it?s not an 18 hole course and it's really nice. The bike track surrounds it which is quite pretty?. She was so happy with her trip she plans to return a little more regularly.
Ken Brown is from Avalon in Sydney and played golf in Thredbo over the Christmas New Year period 2014 - 2015. He is a self professed ?very social golf player?, and usually plays the nine hole golf course at Palm Beach. He rates the Thredbo golf course a little more difficult than Emily, and says ?It's a very challenging place, it looks like no challenge at all, but if you think it's a pushover forget it?.
He played with his son just before 6pm and said he was surprised how many people were on the course at that time of the day, and says people were shaking their heads saying ?it was harder than we thought! as they passed each other?.
Ken stayed at Elevation, one of the several Lantern Thredbo Apartments, and was extremely satisfied. He says, ?It was so accessible to get into the apartment, we went straight into the building into the lift, the apartment slept four but there were more beds inside, it was excellent and there was plenty of room?.
