After ?years of planning, environmental assessments and construction. ?The Thredbo ?section of the ?Thredbo Valley Track has finally opened. ? At a ceremony last weekend, the local member for Eden Monaro John Barrilaro officially opened the section of track from Thredbo Village for ?4 km. ?A further 3.5 km will open in the coming months completing a ?the link for ?riding and walking from Thredbo to the Rangers Station near the Twin Valley's Lookout. ?A feature of this section of the track are 3 spectacular suspension bridges spanning the river offering track users spectacular views of the Thredbo River from above. At the opening local visionary, ?Bruce Marshall spoke about the further?development?of the track in the coming years that will connect Thredbo Village and Lake Crackenback Resort with a 19km trail due for completion in 2015. ?The Thredbo Valley Track will will provide a valuable linkage between the 2 resorts and by the time the track is completed it will be possible to ride the chairlift to the top of the mountain in Thredbo, jump on your ?cross country bike and ride on a flowing track,?primarily?downhill all the way to the Ski Tube and ?Lake Crackenback. ?At a vertical drop of around 85om and probably close to 30km this will be an iconic downhill ride. However if you are like me and you can't wait until 2015, come and ride the new sections that have opened this summer, it is still and great ride and it is only going to get better.
