As we all know restaurants are only as good as the last dish they served and it is all about the people running the restaurant. ?Thredbo always has at least a couple of good restaurants but at the moment the village is going through a restaurant renaissance with some iconic venues benefiting from new ?operators and some of the more established business responding to the competition with renewed vigor.
Jean Michel and Georgie Gerst have taken over the Knickerbocker and they are leading the charge with some innovative food and excellent value. ?We had a Chinese New ?Year meal there and it was the best $50 I have spent on a 3 course menu in years. ? If you are lucky enough to be in Thredbo for Valentine's Day you would be crazy not to book dinner at Knickerbocker, ?with a menu at $48 for 3 courses with a glass of bubbly, it is hard to beat. ?Check out their menu here: Knickerbocker Valentines Day.?
Another restaurant that has been winning friends for the past few years ?is the Thredbo Classic ?"Black Bear Inn". ?Run by Steve Mason and Sandy Connor, this ?Austrian Style Lodge oozes character and while the menu retains a few ?Austrian touches, ?stodge is not on offer. ?Great food, great value, Thredbo's best little bar and some resident possums make this restaurant an easy choice in summer or winter . The Black Bear is also doing a Valentine's Day Menu
Don't forget the Denman Apres bar with it's now signature Orange umbrellas, offering ?a great choice of beer and light meals from the deck with a spectacular view. ?There is nothing better than a lazy summer Sunday on the deck at the Denman watching the clouds and the crowds roll by.
Sante in the village square is ?doing lovely a la carte meals in the evenings ?and has been open for lunch and breakfast over the busy periods this summer and ?of course, ?Bernti's Cafe with its Tapas bar menu and secluded outdoor deck is the perfect spot to sip on a pinot gris and watch the rose coloured sky as the sun sets.
Cascades in the Alpine Hotel is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner with a front row seat for every sunset over Dead ?Horse Gap and for the ultimate view Eagles Nest at the top of the chairlift is a great choice for breakfast and lunch. ?If you are coming to Thredbo over the summer season make time to try Thredbo's restaurants, you will be glad you did.
