Thredbo is famous for its season opening party and this year is no different. Set to light up the skies and rock the village in true alpine style, this massive list of long weekend events, parties and celebrations are a must do!
Highlights of the weekend include a free outdoor concert featuring The Preatures, a spectacular fireworks display and the annual outdoor Thredbo Village Long Lunch.
The heat will quite literally be turned up at the Rekorderlig Poolside Party on Saturday and Sunday afternoon, so pack your togs for this dive in party. The Rekorderlig Sounds in the Snow Series kicks off with a live free gig by electronic trio Crooked Colours. Crooked Colours hail from Perth, and have played at Parklife, Wonderland & St Jerome?s Laneway festivals, and shared the stage with Flume & PNAU.
The Preatures, described as an exhilarating combination of rock and soul, will be headlining the free Corona Village Concert Series in Thredbo's Village Square. They rose to fame with their single Is This How You Feel which made it to number nine in the Triple J Hottest 100, make sure you catch this one. To kick things off Red Wine Roses will be warming up the snow crowd from 6.30pm. For those who haven't had enough partying, the Schuss Bar and Keller Bar will be open until late.
The Village Square will be all action as artist Kenji Ogawa sparks up the files and chainsaw to create a illuminating ice sculpture. And they haven't forgotten about the kids - the Thredboland animals will come out to play at the Kids Opening Party, Twinkle Toes will be teaching the latest dance moves, there will be face painting, Snowy the Clown, the Thredbo Super Slide and a fire show. All this plus snow permitting - the opportunity to jump on the ski's and boards for the first turns of the season awaits!
The Mumm Long Lunch will line the Village Square on Sunday - Italian inspired cuisine, under an alpine sky with Mumm champagne with friends makes this event one of the most popular of the weekend. ?If you need a place to unwind after a jam packed weekend of activities, the Pub Bistro in the Thredbo Alpine Hotel will be hosting the Recovery Party from 10am Monday.

Thredbo Ice Sculpture by Kenji Ogawa From 10.00am across the weekend Village Square Award winning ice sculptor Kenji Ogawa competes and exhibits icy creations around the world and his Australian stop is Thredbo. Watch in awe as Kenji fires up the files and chainsaw to create a sparkling ice sculpture. You will be amazed how this master craftsman transforms a block of ice into a piece of art.
Face Painting 10.00am to 12.00pm 3.00pm to 5.00pm Village Square Smiles are guaranteed as talented Tash and her magical brushes transform the kids into fairies, tigers, unicorns, a princess or your favourite superhero. Tash will add colour, glitter, sparkles and fun to the kids weekend.
Twinkle Toes Dance Sessions 10.00am to 11.00am 3.00pm to 4.00pm Townsend Room Get ready to groove as jazzy Jess brings her best dance moves to Thredbo. The kids get to learn a mix of moves across hip hop, ballet and contemporary, best of all they have a blast.
Rekorderlig Sounds in the Snow with Crooked Colours 2.00pm to 6.00pm Thredbo Alpine Hotel Poolside Note: pack bikinis and boardies. The heat will quite literally be turned up at the dive in Poolside Party at the Thredbo Alpine Hotel. As part of the Rekorderlig Sounds in the Snow Series, electronic trio Crooked Colours will play to the sun goes down. You can warm up by the crackling fires with your favourite beverage or dive into the outdoor pool that is heated to an inviting 24 degrees. Hailing from Perth, Crooked Colours have played at Parklife, Wonderland & St Jerome?s Laneway festivals, and shared the stage with Flume & PNAU.
Massive Fireworks Display 6.00pm Thredbo Village Sky Watch the sky sparkle with colour as the region?s largest fireworks heads high above Thredbo. The mountains will illuminate and dance as the team create a pyrotechnic spectacular.

Roving Fun - Snowy the Clown 10.00am to 12.00pm 1.00pm to 2.00pm Village Square Look out here come?s Snowy the Clown. You won?t miss seeing or hearing him - he has a big red nose, loud outfit and a noisy honker. He will be out and about Thredbo clowning around, looking for mischief and for anyone to be part of his show. There may even be a unicycle involved, great family fun.
