I was listening to a Podcast of ?Richard Fidler's Conversations on the ABC Radio last week and the guest was the Performance Poet ?Omar Musa. I have not really heard much about him but ?by the end of the hour long conversation, ?I was thinking this is an extraordinary and talented individual and I would really like to read his book. ?So when I started researching the program for the 3rd Snowy Mountains Readers Writers Festival I was amazed to find that Omar would be at the festival. ?I was already looking forward to the festival and hearing Peter FitzSimons talk about his next book "Gallipoli", the latest in his series of illuminating accounts of Iconic Australian Stories, my favourite was his book on Charles Kingsford Smith, the Australian Aviation legend. ?? ? Fitzsimons is a well renowned story teller so his talk at ?the opening dinner on Friday Night should be a scream.
However the further I read through the program the more intrigued I became. ?How can this little festival attract such ?fascinating ?group of authors all ready to share their insights, their secrets on writing and their love of story telling. ?? Other authors at the festival include the crime writers Sunari Gentil and Anna George, political satirists ?Steve Lewis and Chris Ulhman, festival patron Karen Viggers, ?poet and literacy champion Victoria McGrath and David Leser, biographer of many including Paul Kelly?and?Bronwyn Bishop.
The festival begins on Friday the 7th of November ?with a dinner in the lovely Knickerbocker Restaurant with?Peter FitzSimons before branching out with workshops, breakfast, lunches, and late night poetry performances that will keep you entertained, enthralled and enriched. ?
