The October long weekend has come and gone.? The fly fishing season has started and? most people are giving their? skis? a summer wax before hiding them in the storeroom. ?? The fact is that some of the best skiing happens once the lifts have closed.? The main range behind Thredbo is still covered in Snow for most of October and there are some great places to ski on the range that will keep the adrenaline pumping for weeks to come.? There are also some beautiful places to see? in an environment that is as unique to Australia as wombats in the snow.?? The only drawback is that you have to pay to play.? Not with dollars for lift tickets,? just with? a little sweat from climbing back up the hill you skied down.... And today,? when everyone keeps going? on about excercise and weight loss, that is not such a bad thing.? I would? rather be climbing back up a snow covered mountain side, than sitting on a spin bike in a gym.
Check out this video of a backcountry tour I did a few weeks ago.

If you aren't too sure about getting out on to the Main Range, you don't have to worry.? K7 Adventures runs snow shoe tours and guided ski touring trips from Thredbo right through spring. See their website for more information.
