When I think of schnapps, I think of the snow, "schnapps in the schnow".?When drinking schnapps in the snow I often reflect how all the elements of appreciation are too rushed. Nothing better than sitting back and enjoying the scenery, the schnapps and the vibe. But it's when there is NO sign of snow you can really give the business of schnapps a whole lot more attention. That's where the Wildbrumby Schnapps Distillery comes in. And only down the road from our Thredbo accommodation. How handy.

Wildbrumby Schnapps Distillery in Thredbo

Brad and Monica Spalding have lived in the NSW Snowy Mountains next to the?Kosciuszko National Park?for years and started up the Wildbrumby Schnapps Distillery about a decade ago. Brad says the distillery has surpassed expectations as just a ?drop in? enroute to a holiday from Sydney to Thredbo.

?The distillery has become a destination. People come for day trips from Canberra. It is really popular and, because its open every day of the year, it is reliable?.

Schnapps is similar to wine in its production style, however instead of grapes, inspiration comes directly from stone fruit, apples, pears, berries and raspberries sourced from the Snowy Mountain region.

When travelling, nothing beats sampling food and drink made from local?produce instead of consuming products shipped halfway across the globe. Which brings me to the distillery's?cafe which features the regions best local ingredients. Brad recommends sampling the Austrian-style continental cakes along with a coffee ?people really love our coffee?, which are incidentally?top of the list on the Snowy Mountains coffee blog.
