If you?re dining with your children and they?re of school age, grab a sheet of puzzles, they are challenging enough to have the whole family involved in between bites of our dinner. With the snow falling outside the setting is absolutely perfect. The view looks out to the snowy mountain straight across the valley, if you dine early enough to see the daylight. Or enjoy the fireworks if you arrive during the Saturday evening fireworks display.

Chorizo baguette with sauerkraut[/caption]
The Braised Duck and Slaw looked amazing, so did the steak baguette with spinach as did the spiced lamb with spinach. There is a box of toys in the corner which is quite good if you have a little one who needs amusing. The lunch menu starts from midday. They also have high chairs. You can sit outside in the open air if you prefer. It is a popular spot to grab a coffee at all times of the day. Call 02 6457 7271.
Black Bear
Located halfway down the mountain on the Diggings Terrace (road) is a very European-inspired Thredbo dining institution. You may have eaten here years ago and remembered it to be quite old school but be surprised. It has been recently renovated and painted with a nice fresh facelift. The meals are absolutely delicious. If you like duck, try it here at Black Bear. The steak is great too. Kids fish and chips are nice and generously sized. The Knickerbocker Restaurant
The Knickerbocker is next to the Thredbo River near the base of the Valley and welcomes noisy families. The food is beautiful, and French inspired and you can tell each meal is thoughtfully prepared. It is a great place to sit and look at the Snowy Mountain natural environment outside and inevitably plan your next visit. The Good Food Guide for 2015 writes ?Chef Jean-Michel Gerst matches (decor) with classic French dishes, such as hearty chicken, preserved lemon and basil terrine, or buttery and bloody-as-hell steak in garlic butter. Central Road Cafe
Central Road Cafe is located in the Village Plaza in the middle of Thredbo Village. It is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner during the winter. It has a street food night on Saturday nights (6.30 pm-8 pm) with satay meals, scotch fillet, pad thai and more and is fully licenced for alcohol. Lunches are generous sized meals served with either fries or bread. I shared my beautiful chorizo baguette with sauerkraut with my daughter, and even then I could only eat half and took the rest home for the boys to devour.
