It is common to see a mob of emu in paddocks during the day, a lone kangaroo at dusk or a wombat ambling along in the evening.
On your Thredbo holiday, it?s a fun activity to take a drive around the area and see if you can spot any of the native wildlife, and sample a few different restaurants at the same time.

True to form, it retains the feel of a timber farmhouse, with light streaming through generous windows, logs piled up outside and a chicken scratching in the grass. At Crackenback restaurant diners can pull up a chair at timber tables balancing on slate floors and watch their kids run wild and free outdoors.
Kids meals are $15 and $16 (schnitzel, spaghetti ?bolognaise or fish and chips, and generous dollops of ice cream) if they?re not too busy outside on play equipment or inspecting defunct farm tractors and the picturesque cattle yard ramp.

Pork sausages warm the soul on a cold winter?s day and the combination of onion, seedy mustard and apples as a glaze are certainly more-ish.
Oysters are from the nearby coastal town of Pambula, great on the food miles scale and ready for shucking. Main meals are $18-$32 and come with a smile.
The Crackenback Farm wine list is extensive so get to the farm with a little time up your sleeve and enjoy a pre-meal drink in the bar and soak up the Alpine scenery. This may be mist, gorgeous sunshine or a glorious bracing Alpine breeze that lets you know more snow is on its way and you?ll be shussing down the slopes tomorrow on your Thredbo holiday.
