From the Aboriginal Ngarigo people who came for thousands of years to the high peaks in summer to gather and celebrate, ?to the Polish explorer who named the peak after a Polish hero and freedom fighter, to the stockmen who used the high country as a refuge against the drought and built a legend out of a rugged existence, ? to the skiers and bushwalkers who came to revel in a unique alpine environment and the Snowy Scheme workers whose multicultural co-operation helped to shape our society today. ? Kosciuszko means something special to so many. With the ?national flag waving in the breeze from the highest point the the country, a 360 degree view of the rest of Australia from above and a stockman reciting the iconic Man from Snowy River ?while Australia's Highest BBQ fires up, that is Australia ?Day on Mt Kosciuszko. ?The Climb Kosci On Aussie Day event is running again on Australia day and back in Thredbo Village there is a weekend of festivities and music. You can join in the BBQ at Rawsons Pass below Kosciuszko on Australia day and with the poetry reading from Midday. ? The BBQ is free but a gold coin donation is welcome for the Children's Hospital Foundation. ?After the celebration on the summit you can head back to Thredbo for live bands playing Aussie covers around the poolside and the perennial Australia Day cricket match on the Village Green. Celebrate Aussie Day on Kosci this year with music in the village from the Saturday the 24th?of January and the Kosci Climb and Celebration on Monday?the 26th.
