Thredbo_Skiing_Corduroy_SnowLike most things, when you're skiing or snowboarding,? a little planning brings big rewards.? This is my idea of a perfect spring day in Thredbo..... 1.? Get out of bed.? Don't lie around waiting for something to happen.?? If the stars were out the night before, the snow would have frozen and you need to get on the hill before it is too late. Thredbo Snow groomers will have been out all night working the snow into one of the best groomed? snow surfaces you can ski or board on... Corduroy.? Check out the photo here and you'll see what I mean.? In spring the Corduroy is the biz but you have to be there.? Ideally your first run on High Noon or the Super Trail will have slightly hard snow, but that is alright because by the 2nd or 3rd run, the corduroy will be softening in the sun and it is like riding on a layer of? cream over a smooth base.? This is? "Hero Snow" and? you can't go wrong. 2. By around 11am or so the bottom runs will be getting pretty soft and unless you love slush skiing you will want to get high (by that I mean go up in altitude. )? Have a quick coffee,? but don't hang around.? The same softening that was happening on the bottom of the mountain will start to happen higher on the T bar runs like Sponars, Antons and the Basin and snow that would have been frozen death cookies at 9am is softening by midday into an inch of soft spring snow on a firm base....You guessed it, more hero snow.? You can play on the these upper runs for as long as the snow quality holds out.? Eventually if it is warm, it will also get slushy.? You can have fun in the slush but you need legs of steel, solid skis or board and and attitude like a Mack truck .? If you don't have these attributes, can I suggest a late lunch at around 2? o'clock which, depending on whether wine is involved can set you up for the afternoon. 3. This is where Spring in Thredbo gets really interesting.? You don't have to ski or board all day.....Yes that is right.? If you started skiing on perfect corduroy at 8.30am and you have followed my spring skiing plan,? by the time you have finished lunch you should be finished on the hill.? And the good news this season is that Thredbo is making it easy for you to get the most out of your Spring day.? With their new "More Fun" Special,? once you get your boots off you can take your lift pass and have free access to the Thredbo Leisure Centre for a relaxing swim in a 50m heated pool, or have a game of tennis or hit the gym or have a bobsled ride with the kids, or (subject to weather) hit the golf course for a quick nine holes to stretch the legs.? Or take a walk up the spectacular Riverside track that follows the Thredbo River up to Deadhorse Gap past pristine cascades and Platypus friendly ponds..... This is spring in Thredbo and I love it. Here's the Deal...We have a Pay 2 Stay 3 accommodation offer available for Spring starting from September 16th and Thredbo is offering their new "More Fun" pass deal so with any valid lift pass in September (excluding season passes) you can access all of the great stuff that spring in Thredbo has to offer at no extra cost.
