Located and accessed from the Federal Highway, the scenery is beautiful in its rugged Australian grandeur. If your priorities are on other stops and you can?t stay for lunch there is always the cellar door for a quick bottle of wine to enjoy at your Thredbo accommodation.

2. ?Historic Mugga Mugga House near?Fyshwick
Visiting Mugga Mugga House is a glimpse into Canberra?s rural past and a deeper understanding of how Australian settlers survived and tamed our brutal land and climate. Original settlement here goes as far back as the 1830s. Visitors can walk through cottage rooms fully furnished and imagine themselves based here, far from modern amenities. Educational for the whole family. Programs are available for children age 4-12.

3. Mt Majura Vineyard

Mt Majura Vineyard is a little closer to Canberra (just 11km from the CBD) and different in taste to Lake George Winery?s shale based wines. Based on red soil, this winery specialises in cellar door sales in person as well as online, and it makes a lovely little pit stop to stretch the legs.
Awarded ?Star Cellar Door? by Gourmet Traveller Wine magazine, it is worth a peek. Cellar Door is Thursday to Monday 10am to 5pm. Call (02) 6262 3070.
4. French Black Truffles of Canberra
Does the idea of the ?ultimate delicacy? intrigue you? Save yourself a trip to France and sample the delights of the Canberra region at French Black Truffles of Canberra. Join in on a twice a day (Saturdays only) truffle hunt between June 14 - 16 August 2014 season at a cost of $60 adults and children over 10 $45. 5. Lanyon Homestead
A sheep and cattle property that dates from the 1830s to the 1970s, Lanyon Homestead transports the visitor to an era where life was not as easy as today but just as beautiful in its own right. Open Tuesday to Sundays 10am till 4pm $7 adults, $5 children and $15 families. Lanyon Homestead, Tharwa Drive, Tharwa (Canberra side of the Tharwa Bridge). 6. Snowy Hydro Discovery Centre, Cooma
A mini-science day out. This hydro centre?naturally showcases the Snowy Hydro Scheme (history, story, engineering, environment) but also segues nicely into lessons for kids of ?all ages? about power, electricity, water, water management and shows visitors in real time where electricity goes.
A combination of photographic displays, video, real time interactive displays, short films and much more, it is educational fun. Open 7 days from 8am till 5pm weekdays and 9am till 2pm Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays, located on the Monaro Highway, 2km north of Cooma.

7. Raglan Gallery, Cooma
A fine example of the historical heritage of Cooma, the Raglan Gallery opened in 1854 then served as a bank for the Gold Field miners, banking all the gold they collected from the 1860s.
Gallery gardens feature trees planted over a hundred years ago and serves as a lovely destination point on Cooma?s oldest street. The building itself features artworks from local artists as well as exhibitions and jewellery available for purchase.
Exhibitions of interest during the 2014 snow season include ?Graham Family Exhibition?, ?Andrew Dawes? Serendipity and a Naidoc expo, showcasing the best of aboriginal arts and crafts.

Seeing is believing. Picture a location in which all your christmas hopes, wishes and dreams are available in one spot, for a price. That is the popular and iconic Christmas shop in Bredbo, open June to December 10am till 5pm open daily (not Tuesday or Wednesday). Elves, Stars, Angels, baubles, snowmen, family figures, hanging ornaments, glass baubles, collectibles, reindeers, lights and so much more it fills a whole barn.

Established in 1836 to service the traffic of stage coaches, some may this inn hasn?t changed much since. Bredbo Inn is slated as one of Australia?s oldest pubs.
Some say there is a resident ghost, whether or not you stay to find out doesn?t change the fact that lunch and dinner is served in the renovated bistro Wednesday to Sundays.
Did the Man from Snowy River die here? Did Banjo Patterson stop here? All will be revealed during a stretch of the legs, a homemade mealor a ?coffee here at 1 Monaro Highway, Bredbo.

Just north of Jindabyne town centre in East Jindabyne is the Kunama Snowy Mountains Centre for the Arts, an art gallery with a distinctive Snowy Country flair. Featuring art works by local artists of beautiful alpine landscapes, it is well worth a visit to get into the Snowy Mountains mood. Located on the Kosciusko Road on the way into town.
