Mt Kosciuszko Australia Day Summit Walk Highlights
If you’re looking for an special way to celebrate Australia Day then come to Thredbo for the Australia Day weekend and climb Mt Kosciuszko. On this walk you’ll not only conquer Mt Kozzie but you can experience activities such as, iconic Australian poetry being read on the summit and Australia’s Highest BBQ. There will also be festivities and music back in Thredbo Village. This is a true blue Aussie experience that shouldn’t missed. Here are some of the best highlights the walk has to offer:
1. Experience Australia Day in a Magical Alpine Environment
After a 15 minute scenic ride on the Kosciuszko Express Chairlift you’ll reach the start of the walking track that leads up to the summit of Mt Kosciuszko. Join the other Aussie Day walkers for the fun hike out to Australia’s Highest Peak. You’ll have an opportunity to stop and take photos of the striking scenery and views, and keep an eye out for unique animals such as Kosciuszko skinks and mountain grasshoppers. Scenery as beautiful as this will make you feel proud to be Australian.
2. A Family Bonding Experience
Climbing Mt Kozzie on Aussie Day is a fantastic thing to do with as a family, and if you have younger kids it’s something they won’t forget in a hurry. They’ll get mementos to show their mates such as stickers that say ‘I conquered Kozzie’ and a certificate. It’s a great way to instill nationalistic pride in the younger generation.

3. Extra Events for Aussie Day
On this walk you’ll get the bonus of Aussie Day activities which makes it extra special. Enjoy classic Australian poetry such as ‘The Man From Snowy River’ read aloud at the summit of Mt Kosciuszko, pretty much as Aussie as you can get and very fitting in the Snowy Mountains, close to the source of the Snowy River! Join in an Australia Day BBQ right up the top before you begin the ascent to the summit or on the way down. The sausage sizzle is a gold coin donation with contributions from the event going directly to Children’s Hospital Foundations Australia.
