Thredbo is a Blue Ribbon Fly Fishing River.
The New South Wales state fisheries classify streams throughout the state for the quality of the fishing. It is no surprise to find that the Thredbo River is classified as a “Blue Ribbon” stream for trout fishing. This means that only Lure and Fly fishing are permitted in the stream. The river is also closed to fishing from the June Long Weekend until the October Long Weekend. You will need a fishing license -the same as required for coastal fishing- but if you don’t have one you can purchase one at Thredbo’s chairlift ticket office.
Fish the Snowy Mountains Lakes.
The lakes created for the Snowy Scheme offer some of the best freshwater fishing in the country. Whether you are bait fishing, lure fishing or fly fishing there are plenty of fish includingsome monsters of the deep to make lake fishing both entertaining and rewarding. In winter there is great fishing in the lakes like Jindabyne and Eucumbene with very big fish coming to the surface to feed.
