Master the FOTU and Learn to Ski or Snowboard
Posted on Monday, 2nd of May 2016
You can easily Learn to Ski or Snowboard in Thredbo but if you don’t have someone to guide you, it can be a daunting prospect. Just the idea of working out when to book, how long to stay, what gear you need and how to organise things when you arrive is enough to put the whole idea into the too hard basket. Add to that the FOTU Factor (Fear of the Unknown) and it might just seem easier to stay at home.
So this season Thredbo is making it easier for you to Face the FOTU and give this exciting sport a go. The Torah Bright 3 for 2 Beginner Pass is a fantastic offer that makes it easier than ever to commit to that First Time Snow Trip. We have combined this amazing deal with our own Snow Season Third Night Free accommodation special to make our best ever beginners package. You can stay in Thredbo 3 nights for the price of 2 and Learn to Ski or Snowboard for 3 full days including lift passes, daily lessons and equipment hire from only $655 per person (Twin Share) or as low as $492 (quad share).
Now, as to when is a good time to learn to ski or snowboard? That depends on how much you want to spend. If you come to Thredbo in June and September you will get the best rates for these special offers but you may not see the whole mountain covered in snow. However with your burgeoning talents as a new skier or boarder you will only need good snow cover on the beginners area at Friday Flat and the easier runs on the Cruiser lift. These areas have Thredbo’s best snow making cover so they usually have good snow cover in June and September.
If you come in July or August you will usually have better snow cover on the whole mountain, which is certainly very pretty and there is nothing like Apres Ski Drinks around the fire with snow on the ground. But you will pay more for a peak season beginners package with prices from $1074 per person (twin share) and $702 (quad share).
As for the gear you will need. The Torah Bright package includes equipment rental for skiing with Skis, Ski Boots and Poles, or for Snowboarding with Snowboard and Boots (you don’t need poles for snowboarding). You can just pick this up in Thredbo when you arrive and the trained staff will make sure you are in the right size gear. If you have any issues the crew can sort it out for you on the spot. You will also need some clothing suitable for snow sport. Water proof clothing is necessary but you can adjust your level of warmth to suit the weather by layering up or down. Of course you can hire the ski clothing in Thredbo which will certainly make you look the part or just bring some waterproof outerwear and some good warm layers. The only other gear you need are warm water proof gloves and some Goggles or Sun Glasses depending on the weather.
The lessons are where it all happens and Thredbo has an excellent snow sports school with experienced qualified instructors and small lesson groups to be sure you get the attention you need. The lessons have a highly developed and tested progression that is designed to get you up and turning quickly with a focus on strong technique and safety. Most people will learn to ski or snowboard quite quickly and within 3 days you can be cruising down runs with a smile on your dial and dreams of you next snow holiday already forming.
So… FOTU dealt with, there is really no reason why you shouldn’t take advantage of the Torah Bright 3 for 2 Beginners package, and bring the buzz of a Snow Holiday into your world.
