Thredbo Jazz 2015

Katie Noone to play in Thredbo Jazz 2015

Katie Noonan and Elixir

For 28 years the Thredbo Jazz Festival has been bringing some heat to the frosty Thredbo Autumn.  In 2015 the festival boasts it’s biggest line up in 5 years with over 80 musicians in Thredbo from May 1st to 3rd, playing in 20 bands over 60 performances in and around the village. Headlining this Jazzalanche of music is the mesmerising Katie Noonan bringing her Opera  upbringing, Jazz training,  Pop profile and her trio Elixir to Thredbo for the first time.  Katie will also sit in with her husband alto sax player Zac Hurrren and his trio.

Back again for 2015 is another vocal powerhouse, Ms Murphy,  the Kiwi Legends Nairobi Trio,  Thredbo favourite George Washing Machine and a blast from the past Trumpet player and big band leader Billy Burton.

Chukale plays their Salsa Music in Thredbo

Chukale will Samba their way into Thredbo 2015

Thredbo Jazz 2015 will have a global feel this year with African inspired beats from Keyim Ba, Latin Jazz and Salsa from Chukale, cajun Zydeco from Harmanaix.

The Trad jazz fans will have the Hot Peppers blowing up a storm and for a 1920’s taste, Greg Poppleton and the Bakelite Broadcasters will bring their spats and pinstripes to the party.  For a more mainstream mix Jason Bruers Hammerhead  will be in Thredbo playing their post bop tributes to the Jazz Messengers and Matt McMahon and his trio will play inspired jazz of the highest calibre.

Sax man and crooner Nic Jeffries will bring his band to Thredbo and with his super smooth vocals this will be a band to cosy up to by the fire.  Rick Mellick, Liza Ohlback and Alison Penney will bring a different vocal vibe with their gutsy blues, funk and soul.  Also on the funk side of the equation will be Righteous Voodoo and Illyya Zwec.
